Our Design Principles

Main content start

We aspire to persistently create cohesive, high-quality experiences across all of our products.

We believe in following a set of guiding principles to ensure that our design strategy aligns with our values and commitment to serving the Stanford community. These principles are foundational in the way we approach design and user experience, helping us make consistent, user-centered decisions. By adhering to these principles, we can ensure that our designs are intuitive, aesthetically pleasing, accessible, and intentional in consistently meeting both user and business goals.

Design Together

We design together to build creative solutions through deliberate, safe, and open “dialog” with each other, our stakeholders, and our users.

Design Humanely

We design humanely to empower our constituents safely, compassionately, and respectfully

Design Consciously

We design consciously to understand the problems we are solving by balancing empathy, and observational and statistical data to meet both user and business goals.

Design for Utility

We design for utility to facilitate humans in their effort to accomplish their work, efficiently, and joyfully at the right time and place.

Design Inclusively

We strive to design inclusively by continually learning about our own biases and by building with diversely-minded people to provide engagement and accessibility.

Design for Sustainability

We design for sustainability by applying focus on future “problems” and flexibility to solve for wider applications.
